The change apparently took place between 1984 and 1993. From its intersection with GA 104 in Columbia County to its intersection with GA 10/US 78 in Wilkes County, GA 47 is part of the Joe Wheeler Highway. Also, in Columbia County, from GA 150 north to the Little River bridge, the road is designated the Jack Eubank Memorial Highway.
